Some may wonder at AT&F now in the Department of Justice. I wonder more about DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) staying in DOJ when it should be part of DHS. Why?
Read between the lines of this GAO letter report:
LETTER REPORT Combatting Illicit Drugs: DEA and ICE Interagency Agreement Has Helped to Ensure Better Coordination of Drug Investigations, GAO-11-763, July 28 (57 pages) http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-11-763 Highlights - http://www.gao.gov/highlights/d11763high.pdf When I entered government service in July 1967 there was no DEA. The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs were part of the US Treasury department. It has long since been established that drugs support terrorism. DOJ was reluctant to give up DEA since the FBI has never had much interest in drug issues even back to the J.Edgar Hoover era. Eventually this merger will occur.
